The Evans Head-Casino Surf Life Saving Club came into existence in the year 1922, immediately after Miss Gladys Morrow, only sixteen years, lost her life in the surf at Evans Head Beach. The village at the time was very small, but the public-spirited men reacted immediately and the day after the tragedy, a public meeting was called, and the outcome was the formation of the Evans Head S.L.S.C. The steering committee consisted of Messrs. Jim Paddon, John Olive, M. Campbell, J.A. McRae, Geo Wybrow, L. Baker, F. Davis, R. Paddon, John Rosolen, K. McLean, J. McDonald and ZJ. Cribb.
